The first passage I read was called Rose. I thought the story was very interesting because it was about a women's mother who grew up in the Great Depression and how she was a waitress. The story talked about how difficult it is being a waitress, for example you have to learn how to move around efficiently through a crowded space with orders to fill. A waitress also needs to be able to balance and carry many things at a time. I never have been a waitress but always have wanted to do that as a part-time job maybe over winter break. To be a good waitress you also have to have good memory. Reading the whole passage made me think differently about waitresses. It sounds like a much harder job than I thought.
The other passage talked about college life. The passage talked about what it was like to be a freshman. In the passage it mentions that freshman have to go to the welcome week and take a special course for freshman only. The students did not like the course because they had to take it and had no choice. The passage also mentions how they tried to get the freshman involved like having a movie night, but barely anyone came. I felt I can relate to a lot of things mentioned in the passage. I'm in the LLC and when we were scheduled to have a movie night and no one came. I don't think anyone came because they thought it would be uncool or stupid. On my floor we also use to have hall dinners every Wednesday night. Each week less and less girls came and I have to say it was probably because we were being forced to eat with the girls on our hall. Most of us wanted to eat with our friends and there are different cliques are my floor that do not like each other. Another thing that was similar was the fact that they had bathroom rules. My CA is always telling girls to keep hair out of the sinks and there seems to still be a lot of drama with that and more. Overall I think this passage is very similar to my college experience as a freshman and I think everyone can relate to it.
